Jam-packed with assessment, treatment planning and treatment ideas, this course will address the WHY, WHEN, and HOW to address functional visual skills in school-based practice. Visual processing, visual perception and visual motor skills are crucial for students to be successful classroom learners. Participants will learn to identify areas of difficulty using a functional visual skills checklist. We will review standardized and evidenced-based evaluation tools appropriate for the school setting. We will discuss how to plan treatment to address challenges identified, using a wide variety of treatment modalities which will be demonstrated. School based therapists will be able to put their own visual skills binder together to use as a quick treatment tool in their schools. Video demonstrations will be used to help participants become familiar with both assessment and treatment strategies. This course will also address prioritization and progression for treatment planning.

Melissa Gerber, OTD, OTR/L is a seasoned and respected clinician with extensive experience in pediatrics. She began her career in Adult/Pediatric inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation and acute care, and she currently works for Great Neck Public Schools, 21 years. Dr. Gerber is the President of 4MYKIDSOT, a private practice providing therapy and evaluations. Dr. Gerber is also affiliated with PuzzleArt Therapy, and enjoys sharing this program.
