Participants completing this course should be able to:
- Describe what dyslexia is as well as the ways in which language challenges, visual perceptual deficits, and non-integrated reflex development impact reading and writing.
- Identify the difference between auditory processing dysfunction and language processing deficits.
- Recognize the social, behavioral, clinical and school-based implications for individuals with auditory and language-based disorders.
- Describe techniques to assist with remediation of auditory processing, language processing, and visual perceptual deficits as they relate to dyslexia.
- List three key reflexes that impact the visual system and reading.
- Describe reflex testing and integration strategies for the Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex, Symmetric Tonic Neck Reflex, and Oculo Head Righting Reflex.

Fraida Flaishman, PhD, OTR/L
Fraida Flaishman is a pediatric occupational therapist residing in Brooklyn N.Y. She graduated from New York University in 1995 with a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy and currently holds a Ph.D. from Capella University. Fraida works as the therapy supervisor at Yaldeinu a school for children with autism and related disabilities. Fraida runs a private practice and works as adjunct faculty for the Touro College Occupational therapy program. Fraida provides school-based consultation as well as mentorship and supervision, lectures, conducts evaluations and provides treatment planning information for families. Fraida is the creator of the DVD Child Development series Baby Instructions that includes information on appropriate stimulation for infant and toddler development. Specialty certifications include, Sensory Integration and Praxis Testing, MEDEK, Therasuit, Infant Massage Instruction, Aquatic Exercise Instruction, Irlen Screening, CPI Trainer, and more. Fraida has completed research in the area of clinical genetic services and reflex integration in school age children as well as the special needs populations.
Fraida receives a speaking fee for her presentation. She has no relevant nonfinancial relationships to disclose.

8:00-9:30 – Overview of Dyslexia including the connection between Dyslexia, language challenges, and visual perceptual deficits.
9:30-10:030 – Auditory and language processing overview with a focus on presenting symptoms, behavioral implications, and Assessment.
10:30 – 15 minute Break
10:45-11:45 – Intervention for Auditory and Language Processing difficulties and remediation for individuals with Dyslexia.
11:45-12:30 – Lunch
12:30-1:30 – Identification and treatment of visual perceptual challenges as they relate to Dyslexia.
1:30-2:30 – Testing and Integration Strategies for Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex, Symmetric Tonic Neck Reflex, and Oculo Head Righting Reflexes.
2:30-3:00 – Review and Questions
