has practiced OT for over 20 years and is a mother of 2 wonderful girls. She is a national speaker and co-creator of The TV Teacher, an award-winning handwriting program for children with special needs. Marnie has been published in several journals and has been featured on CBS, CNN, and NBC. She currently lives in Dallas, Texas and owns Lone Star Children’s Therapy, Inc.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this program learners will be able to:

  • Understand how, when and where to use the Alphabet Beats Program and how video modeling “works” in multiple classroom settings with children of multiple skill levels.
  • Articulate knowledge of current research surrounding the video modeling approach and how to implement VM in a therapeutic setting.
  • Understand the pyramid of handwriting development, skills that effect fine motor development, and how to foster a child’s skill.
  • Develop an evidence-based understanding of how cognition, self-regulation, and gross motor skill contribute to handwriting development and how therapists can apply this knowledge in our practice.
  • Acquire an understanding of a multitude of easily implemented activities that foster motor, visual motor, and fine motor skill.

2:00- 2:40 – “3-300” Activities Challenge to Develop Skills of the Pyramid:
Reflection on executive function, self-regulation, gross / fine motor skills and how we help today’s student using everyday activities and supplies – how do we use easy, cost-effective supplies to promote skills

Each lab group will use clinical experience to share how they progress students toward age appropriate success
Lab leaders will share activities and their contribution to specified skill components
